Alex Honeyman

Alex Honeyman, R.P., I.C.A.D.C.
(416) 640-1061 ext. 234

Alex joined the RCS team after a decade of front line work in the residential treatment world working with individuals and families affected by substance use and concurrent mental health disorders. He worked as an addiction counsellor at Renascent, one of Toronto’s main abstinence-based treatment providers.

He is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) and an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counsellor with the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF). He has been working in the substance use disorder and mental health treatment field since 2006.

Alex’s main area of focus at RCS is working with male clients and their families, serving people 14 years of age and up. He provides assessments, individual and family treatment plans, intensive outpatient counselling and therapy,  group therapy, and case management services.  In cases where individuals require referral to intensive inpatient programming, Alex refers them to programs within RCS’s vast network of exceptional treatment providers in Canada, the United States, and other locations throughout the world as each individual case requires, and follows them throughout their entire treatment journey until they are ready to return to Toronto, where he designs individualized outpatient aftercare programs for them at RCS.

Alex is honoured to be a member of the RCS team, and recognizes that we play a significant role in helping people up from challenging low points in their lives, and thusly treats his role at the practice with a high level of respect and care.  He creates a therapeutic bond with each client he works with that is built on trust, safety, and solution-focused interventions and outcomes that are both client and family-centred, understanding that each person’s path is unique and complex. He is able to work within the abstinence-based and harm reduction frameworks, but believes in cases where an individual presents with a severe substance use disorder that abstinence is the best-recommended outcome to prevent future relapses and setbacks.
